It would be hard to get lost on the Barrow Way (109km - 68 miles) because it follows the towpaths of the Barrow Line along the Grand Canal and the Barrow Navigation. Starting at Lowtown in Co. Kildare the Barrow Way passes through Monasterevan, Vicarstown, Athy, Maganey on to Carlow Town/ Graiguecullen and Clogrennan. Further south it passes through Leighlinbridge, Muine Bheag (Bagenalstown), Borris and on to St. Mullins in Co. Carlow where the river becomes tidal. The canal with their locks which bypass the shallow rapids and weirs on the Barrow Navigation provide a contrast to the open river. The towpath also offers a contrast - from urban to rural, farmland to woodland. Guide to the Grand Canal by Duchas, The Heritage Service/
